FORMER Wales rugby league star Regan Grace has signed a short-term contract with Bath.

The 27-year-old switched to rugby union and joined Racing 92 in the summer of 2022, shortly after rupturing his Achilles playing for St Helens against Salford.

He did not make a single appearance for the French club after suffering a relapse of the injury last February.

The Welshman made 143 appearances for St Helens across six seasons, winning three Super League Grand Final rings and a Challenge Cup winners’ medal, and scoring 88 tries.

Bath hope he will return to full fitness in March and be available for selection for the friendlies against Gloucester and Leinster.

Grace will be joined at the West Country club by two South Africans who have joined from the Bulls. Forward Jacques du Plessis and scrum-half Neil Le Roux will also continue their rehabilitation with Bath.

Du Plessis, 30, rejoined the Bulls from Montpellier in 2021 but hamstring and knee injuries limited his appearances.

The length of 20-yearold scrum-half Le Roux’s contract has not been disclosed.

Matt Gallagher, below, will leave Bath at the end of the 2023-24 season to join Louis Lynagh at Italian side Benetton.
