Moody fears an ireland onslaught

LEWIS Moody fears “unstoppable” Ireland will deliver further bad news for England when they arrive at Twickenham. Andy Farrell’s side go into the contest with the happy memory of a hefty 32-15 victory the last time they visited Twickenham while England’s defeat at Murrayfield last weekend put a dampener on Steve Borthwick’s attempt to create a winning mentality.

They will need to show character and desire to bounce back and while Moody has been lifted by the Red Rose performances following their World Cup semi-final effort, he believes they are still well below the performance level needed to derail the Irish bandwagon.

The World Cup winner says: “England will be anxious to rebound from what happened against Scotland but, unfortunately for them, it doesn’t get any easier with the Irish up next, and then they go to play an under-performing French side which always lifts itself for the visit of the English.”

Moody can’t see anything other than another Ireland Grand Slam, adding: “In my eyes Ireland are simply unstoppable. They have beaten France, Italy and Wales very comfortably and impressively. They have that winning confidence and, in Andy Farrell they also have a winner who knows how to win. He knows how to create a successful environment. He knows how to bring in guys like Jack Crowley who only has around 10 caps but is playing as if he’s been in that side for 20 years.
