NORTHAMPTON got back to winning ways at Franklin’s Gardens on Friday in their final warmup for the resumption of Premiership ahead of their trip to Bristol on Friday night.

Tries from Burger Odendaal, Ollie Sleightholme and Trevor Davison gave the hosts a ninepoint lead at the break, with Sale scoring two through Rob Du Preez and Tom O’Flaherty.

The only score in the second half came from replacement Ewan Baker as he finished of a flowing Saints move to ensure victory after last week’s narrow loss to Stormers.

Saints dominated the early exchanges with Juarno Augustus and the retur ning George Hendy making early breaks before Charlie Savala’s crossfield kick found Courtney Lawes on the wing who passed inside to Augustus who fed Burger Odendaal for the first try of the game. Savala added the extras but it didn’t take long for Sale to reply, as Rob Du Preez crossed for a try in the corner.

Saints lost Tom Lockett to the sin bin for a high tackle and Sale put the ball wide for Tom O’Flaherty to score.

Saints re-took the lead with Ollie Sleightholme finishing acrobatically in the corner after neat hands from a lineout five metres out.
