Home sweet home Sue’s village scene took nearly five months to bring to life

HOME SWEET HOME

I’ve stitched the ‘Christmas Village’ from issues 312 (November 2021), 313 (December 2021) and 314 (Special 2021) to sit on my hearth. I’ve been stitching for more than 30 years, after a long spell in hospital when a fellow patient suggested it as a form of relaxation. I enjoy stitching a variety of projects including birth samplers, photos stitches and Cornish landscapes by Emma Louise Art Stitch, one of your designers. When I saw this project, I immediately thought ‘what a lovely thing to stitch’. It took nearly five months for me to complete. It was a wonderful project to work on and if there are ever any more shops or buildings to expand it, I would definitely stitch them. I got the little street lamps on the internet as I thought it would add to the scene. I’m going to look for some small figures in scale that I can add to my village display as well.

Hannah F: Excellent work, Sue! The street lamps are the perfect finishing touch. I hope you’ll enjoy stitching Fiona Baker’s gingerbread houses on p64 to add to your collection.

Carry on stitching

Carry on stitching This festive cutie was 20 years in the making

Back in 2001, when I saw this Country Companions design in issue 52 (November 2001), I knew I had to make it. Unfortunately, I hadn’t realised the difficulty I would have stitching mainly shades of blue on a red background, as I’m colour blind. This design has been stopped and started many times over the past 20 years and it’s even moved house with me. I tried different ways of reading the pattern, with a lot of help from my family who were asked on many occasions ‘what colour is this?’, but this year I finally finished it. I am really proud that I didn’t give up.

Fiona: Well done for persevering, Joanna. It must have been an amazing feeling to work that final stitch.
