Dip your needle into these miniature sun-soaked shacks to build your very own scenic beach haven

DESIGNED BY FIONA BAKER

TRY SOMETHING NEW WITH Surf’s up! Catch some rays at any one of these little coastal cabins that you’ll find on the seashore

We’re dreaming of summer holidays here and Fiona’s beach set is the perfect way to keep the excitement going!

This sweet trio of cabins is worked on plastic canvas – if you haven’t used this before, it has grid holes to follow, like aida, but is both flexible and sturdy (visit www.gathered. how for the low-down). You’ll stitch each piece separately before joining together to build the cabins. Whipstitch is used to join each piece and any exposed edges are covered by overstitching them.

You’ll love the beach bar’s thatched roof too. This fun and fluffy texture is made with turkey stitch and there’s a full step-by-step on page 35. Or, if that’s too tricky, just fill the panels of the roof with similar coloured stitches instead.

Have fun stitching the little extra charts too, including a seagull and colourful surfboards, and add a touch of charm to your cute cabins.

Meet Fiona Baker

I love creating fun plastic canvas projects and this beach set is my favourite so far. I long to live by the sea and have a little beach hut to make my own. I’ve added the little black cats that feature throughout my 3D model series again too – can you spot them all?

How to...assemble your beach cabins

Once you’ve finished stitching, cut out all the completed pieces leaving a one-square border. Be careful not to snip into any holes containing stitches, then follow the tutorials for the construction of each model. All overstitching and whipstitching is to be done using three strands of thread, matching adjoining colours where depicted, or one strand of invisible thread. Once assembled, overstitch all exposed edges in matching colours using our photos as a guide.
