Block Of The Month makes!

I thought you might be interested to see my version of Jo Avery’s daffodils and tulips designs. I had just finished a Jen Kingwell quilt, which I love to bits, and wanted the next design I tried to be very free and easy. I adore hand appliqué, so when I saw the daffodils in Jo’s design, I immediately wanted to do them. Here is my version, which I created as a table runner – I love that it is so bright and breezy. The following month, you featured Jo’s beautiful tulip design, which I have also made as a table runner.

I have just celebrated my 80th birthday and have been quilting for 50 years – I feel very blessed to be involved with such a wonderful craft! I am fortunate enough to have my own sewing room, and during the Covid pandemic, I was never bored as I could spend long hours in my cabin totally immersed in my fabrics and quilting. My family was delighted as they all got quilts as a result. One of my projects was Janet Clare’s delightful Spoondrift Quilt, which you ran as a block a month. This went to my eldest son who is a mariner and lives on his yacht. He treasures that quilt, and his visitors are very complimentary about it.

My next project will be Deirdre Bond-Abel’s beautiful design, which you featured in your 100th issue. This will be an heirloom for my 4-year-old great-granddaughter – she has several of my quilts and can pick out all my fabrics.

I love the magazine, so many great ideas!

What beautiful work, Jeannie – huge well done! We love how you have adapted Jo’s BOM designs to make two gorgeous table runners. This craft is all about getting creative and playing around with patterns to create something totally unique!

KAFFE FASSETT’S EYE-CATCHING QUILT

I made the attached quilt by Lin Clements from the supplement: The Colourful World of Kaffe Fassett, which came with issue 79. I wanted bright colours, so I mostly used Kaffe’s fabric. In addition, I also used his fabric for the backing, which makes the quilt reversible. This is the first foundation paper piecing quilt I have made and the first bed-sized quilt. I love it and I am planning to make another one from the same supplement.

Your quilt looks absolutely fantastic, Susan. We love the dramatic contrast between the white and red fabrics – it’s truly stunning!
