BLOCK OF THE MONTH PROJECT

BEHIND THE QUILT FINISHING THE QUILT

“I hope you have all enjoyed joining me on this floral journey through a year of gathering blooms. When I planned this Block of the Month last summer, I had to estimate a little to match the time of publication with the flowers I’d chosen to feature each month. I was therefore very pleased when a new magazine issue arrived and I was able to find that particular flower already in bloom in my garden or hedgerow. I have enjoyed stitching each and every block and have been especially pleased to see alternative versions stitched by readers appearing on my social media feed; there will be so many beautiful quilts made from this BOM! I chose to quilt my version with a straight line grid on my long-arm machine. I would have loved to have hand quilted this special heirloom quilt, but time and the need to preserve my hands didn’t allow for that. However, I did leave some line spaces free of machine quilting and had just enough time to add some big stitch hand quilting there instead.” – Jo Avery
