BEHIND THE QUILT

LUXURIOUS SHADES

“As soon as I saw this gorgeous line of fabrics from Renee Nanneman, I knew they would be perfect for a quilt with an Amish-type palette – lots of deep, rich colours on a dark background. There are several techniques used in this quilt: you will be making double economy squares but cutting the pieces to size rather than adding triangles using squares. Whereas the single economy squares and the flying geese are made in the traditional way by adding triangles to the corners using squares of background fabric. If you make this quilt with the same fabrics as I did, you might have fun playing with the colour layout – all of these rich colours combine together so beautifully and would work equally as well on a cream or even a charcoal background.” –
