LOG CABIN PROJECT

BEHIND THE QUILT GET ORGANISED!

“We loved designing Log Cabin Love – mixing Log Cabin blocks with hearts is a great combo! The quilt is not difficult to make and suitable for confident beginners, but we do encourage you to be organised and keep the ‘logs’ and units in labelled piles. Keep referring to the diagrams for the block and sashing placements.

“A great tip is to take a photo of your completed quilt blocks when laid out in readiness for sewing. This can be referred to when sewing the blocks and checking everything is in the correct position.” – Pam & Nicky Lintott

Notes

■ WOF = width of fabric, approx. 42in.

Sorting the jelly roll

1 Divide the jelly roll into two (2) colourways. You need eighteen (18) strips for the light side and twenty-two (22) strips for the dark. Artistic licence can be used here but the colourways need to look different. You can cut a few strips from the sashing log fabrics if needed as you have a bit extra to play with. Just make sure you don’t cut the outer logs (the 2in x 12½in and 2in x 14½in logs) with this fabric, as you don’t want two (2) logs of the same fabric next to each other.

Cutting out

Please note, when cutting the logs, always cut the longer logs first as the smaller logs can be cut from any excess from the strips. Logs of each size do not need to be cut from the same fabric as this is a scrappy quilt.

2 From the jelly roll, cut the following light jelly roll strips:

■ Seven (7) 2½in x 12½in strips.

■ Twenty-five (25) 2½in x 10½in
strips.

■ Sixteen (16) 2½in x 8½in strips.

■ Sixteen (16) 2½in x 6½in strips.

■ Sixteen (16) 2½in x 4½in strips.

■ Sixteen (16) 2½in x 2½in strips.

3 From the jelly roll, cut the following dark jelly roll strips:

■ Seven (7) 2½in x 14½in strips.

■ Four (4) 2½in x 12½in strips.

■ Twenty-eight (28) 2½in x 10½in
strips.
