SHOW& TELL

Well instructed

I have enjoyed making the Creative Curves BOMs to date thanks to Lynne’s clear and detailed instructions/illustrations and her system of breaking down the block into bite-size units – which gives opportunities for chain-piecing – and having breaks during the making process to answer a “can you just” call! Taking Lynne’s instruction to press the components – i.e. lift and place the iron (do not glide it!) – is important to avoid stretching the bias folds. Placing a piece of baking parchment beneath the patches helps to create sharp creases; it also reduces the need for steam ironing. I am keenly awaiting the next design, due to land on my doormat any day!

We are so glad to hear you’re enjoying the block of the month series and picking up so many of Lynne’s quilting tips and tricks! Your blocks look absolutely fantastic – we’d love to see a photo of your finished quilt when you complete the series!

FASHIONABLY LATE

Here’s a photo of my completed Jolly Holly quilt by Lynne Goldsworthy from Issue 107 of the magazine – which I used my own colour scheme for. Unfortunately, I didn’t get it finished for the Christmas just passed, but I can’t wait to get it out for future Christmases.

You’ve done a jolly good job with this gorgeous festive quilt, Kay – huge well done! It will definitely spread lots of Christmas cheer next holiday season!

Jolly Holly tablecloth

I loved the Jolly Holly design in Issue 107, but I am new-ish to quilt making, so I wanted to make a smaller item. I made the design as a tablecloth (36in square). I didn’t add batting to the tablecloth – I just used a light coloured fabric to back it and stitched in the ditch around the big squares. I had to calculate how much fabric to use and caref
