Thinking about globalization also means thinking about displacement. The displacement of people around the globe – of urbanites, rural inhabitants, migrants, refugees, informal settlers, and homeless people – even of cities and landscapes is often an act of force. In an interview with topos the anthropologist Anthony Oliver-Smith even speaks of displacement as a process of uprooting. In topos 108 we will shed light on the drivers, effects and stakeholders of displacement, and discusses its connection with environmental disasters, climate change, armed conflicts and urban development.
