GO YOUR OWN WAY
10 NEW EASY-TO-FOLLOW RUNNING ROUTES WITH FULL MAPS!
WONDROUS TRAILS TO HELP YOU GO THAT EXTRA MILE
February/March 2022
One of running’s joys lies in its ability to offer an escape. Within minutes of lacing up our shoes, the busy stresses of daily life begin to fall away. As the miles pass, that sense of freedom deepens. This issue’s routes are all about capturing that essence of escape, wherever you happen to find yourself and whatever level of challenge you’re seeking. Starting with ideas for escaping the city, our first three routes find the wild spaces hidden within Britain’s biggest conurbations. Discover herds of deer and ponies grazing among sites of historical interest, all within easy reach of the office. Our next four routes explore some of England’s National Parks, stepping up the challenge a little. Each one celebrates some of its area’s fascinating geological features:
Dartmoor’s granite tors; the intriguing Hole of Horcum, high on the North York Moors; and an exciting run-scramble up Crowden Clough –a rocky waterfall tumbling down the fells from Kinder plateau.
Lastly, we take on the National Three Peaks, but with a difference. Excellent mountain skills and good weather are essential, as these are longer, higher and more challenging runs, well off the beaten track, tackling lesser-known ascents of Scafell Pike, Snowdon and Ben Nevis.
