This issue we’ve worked with The Green Runners to bring you trail running adventure inspiration from Cornwall to Corrour, all accessible by public transport. A community group co-founded by runners Damian Hall, Jasmin Paris and Russell Bentley, alongside partners Trees Not Tees and ReRun Clothing, The Green Runners’ aim is to encourage us all to consider the impact of our running on the planet. We spoke to Damian Hall, whose new book, We Can’t Run Away From This, is out now, about how the group came into being.
“Several of us had joined Extinction Rebellion protests and were wondering what, as runners, we could do about the climate and ecological emergency,” he explained. “Then Ajay (whose South Downs route you’ll find later on) suggested forming a club. A runner’s footprint is usually made up of their travel, their kit, and their diet, so these became our first three pillars. Speaking out to generate more systemic change became our fourth.”
And it’s a message that’s close to the hearts of the running community.
“We’ve been blown away by the response and the hundreds who’ve joined us, by making a pledge to improve at least one pillar,” Damian told us.
