Stillwater Carron has a padded backrest and seat offering all-day comfort afloat.

Take a seat

Sitting for long periods on a plank or thwart on a boat is uncomfortable. The new Carron Swivel Boat Seat from Stillwater has everything you need to make your time afloat more bearable and efficient. The seat is made from solid moulded plastic and has a deep, cupped base that prevents it sliding in rough conditions. The backrest is also ergonomically shaped and has enough height to provide plenty of support, taking the pressure off your muscles.

Two stainless steel pins hinge the backrest to the base and allow it to be folded flat for easy storage and transport. The base and backrest have durable green vinyl covers that are mildew- and water-resistant and contain foam padding around 2in thick. They give all-day comfort and can be easily removed for cleaning by releasing press studs.

On the underside of the seat is a steel rotating base plate. It rotates smoothly on roller bearings through 360 degrees, allowing you to cover moving fish, operate an outboard or reach for a bag or jacket. The seat has a locking clamp, which adjusts from 26cm to 70cm wide via threaded bars and wingnuts, securing it to most boats’ thwart boards. A ratchet strap can be used for extra security.

Seat dimensions: 45cm x 45cm x 45cm. Weight: around 12lb.

Kit and kaboodle

There is no doubt that a Gamechanger (a baitfish pattern built on linked, articulated shanks) has unrivalled movement when retrieved. It is as close to the action of a swimming baitfish as an artificial fly can get, and given that it is made primarily of water-shedding fritz, it is also easy to cast.

Gamechangers are simple to tie if you have the correct ingredients and that’s why the Celtic Blob Company has compiled this kit, so that everything is compatible and straightforward.

First are the all-important shanks in 10mm, 14mm, 18mm and 22mm lengths with spurs designed to aid connection and provide an even and matching body profile. The shanks are available in packs of 25 in one size, or 100 in all four sizes. You can combine lengths or use the same length throughout —it depends on the length of the fly you intend to tie. Just remember that the more shanks you use, the more articulation and movement you’ll get. Made from stainless steel, they are built to withstand saltwater use but work with freshwater trout, pike and perch, too.

There are many online videos showing how easy a Gamechanger is to tie, suggesting different ways to
