NAM Original and REN

NAM Original, £590 — £1,050; NAM REN, £890 — £1,250

The Original series was NAM's first rod and is still its flagship model. An all-round utilitarian fishing tool with a fast action and the power to cope with pretty much any situation, it is light and comfortable to cast. This is a sophisticated rod; with its sleek minimalist finish it doesn’t really like to show off. Available in a wide range of single- and double-handers.

The REN is the perfect foil to the fast action of the Original. Think of it as a modern rod with a traditional feel. It has a beautiful deep-loading action you will feel all the way to the cork, yet it is incredibly responsive with a lightning-quick recovery. This is possible due to the REN blank: a unique graphite blend with incredible tensile strength that makes it possible to equip each rod with a very fine tip and deep load without sacrificing sensitivity or line speed. Its deep brown blank and classic aesthetics match its modern-traditional performance.

Sage Spey R8 DH

£1,300

Utilising Sage's proprietary Revolution 8 graphite technology along the full length of double-handed rod tapers results in a blank with an unmatched ability to capture and carry power, alongside exceptional tracking. Energy produced during the cast and applied directly to the rod are transmitted entirely into the line, so speycasters aren’t required to compensate for lost energy or imprecise rod reactions. With the Spey R8, casts are smooth, instinctual and consistent.

Adequate stiffness, power, and responsiveness paired with lightness ensure no effort is wasted and fatigue is minimal when lifting long or heavy heads, sink tips and flies. R8 technology maximises the amount of energy collected in sweep or touch-and-go moves, carries it into the D-loop and transfers it smoothly into the rod. Responsiveness and tracking abilities of R8 technology diminish lost energy and reduce lateral movements upon the forward stroke, increasing power and
