MOST TV SERIES have at least one key character with which they’ll always be associated: EastEnders’ Phil Mitchell and Only Fools and Horses’ Del Boy, for instance. Similarly, the new Polestar 5 performance saloon seems destined to bring star quality to the electric car brand’s line-up.
A rival to the Audi E-tron GT and Porsche Taycan, the Polestar 5 is powered by two electric motors (one on the front axle and one on the rear), giving it four-wheel drive. Combined, the motors pump out 874bhp, compared with the 751bhp produced by most powerful Taycan.
The first Polestar model to be developed in the UK, the 5 uses bespoke underpinnings, with an ultra-stiff body and suspension set-up for what its maker promises to be a sporty driving experience.
Polestar hasn’t revealed battery details, but we expect the 5’s to be larger than its Polestar 2 sibling’s. Something in the 100kWh region should give it an official range of up to 300 miles – less than the Mercedes-Benz EQS can manage but slightly farther than most versions of the Taycan will take you on a charge.
