Price from £31,000 (est) Small electric hatchback is stretched and turned into a saloon with a sizeable boot
THE NEW CITROËN e-C4 X is a car for those who prefer the director’s cuts of their favourite films. You see, much as the Lord of the Rings extended editions are two hours longer than the originals, the e-C4 X is a stretched saloon version of the e-C4 electric hatchback.
At 4.6 metres, the X is around 240mm longer than the regular e-C4, with most of that going into the boot. At 510 litres, its boot capacity is 130 litres up on that of the e-C4, which can hold five carry-on suitcases beneath its load cover. It’s also more than the Kia Niro EV SUV (475 litres) and MG 5 estate (464 litres) can hold.
On the other hand, the X is almost identical to the regular e-C4 in the front, from its 10.0in infotainment touchscreen to the ‘Advanced Comfort Seats’, which are lined with memory foam to make them soft yet still supportive.
The X also shares the e-C4’s electrical underpinnings, with a 134bhp motor that draws from a 50kWh battery.
The official range is slightly better than the e-C4’s – up from 219 miles to 224 miles – thanks to its more aerodynamic rear end. Charging is possible at rates up to 100kW, allowing you to replenish the battery from 10-80% in as little as 30 minutes.
However, performance is relatively leisurely, with a 0-62mph time of 9.7sec.That compares with the Niro EV’s 7.8sec and 8.3sec for the MG 5 Long Range.
While the e-C4 X will have petrol and diesel siblings in some markets, these aren’t going to be sold in the UK.
Pricing is expected to start at around £31,000, making the e-C4 X slightly more
