GLC Coupé offers similar interior space to its blockier sister

IF STYLE IS high on your SUV priority list, the new Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé could be for you; it promises practicality and performance similar to the regular GLC’s, and it looks a good bit sleeker.

Unlike its squarer sibling, the GLC Coupé doesn’t offer such a diverse range of engines; there are two diesels and a petrol to choose from, but no plug-in hybrids (for that reason, company car drivers will probably prefer the regular version). Out of these, we think the entry-level 220d diesel is the way to go, because it offers keen performance while being relatively economical.

Every GLC Coupé has sports suspension, but this isn’t a good thing. You see, unlike the Porsche Macan’s set-up, the GLC Coupé’s suspension isn’t great at ironing out potholes and imperfections; it thuds noticeably and jostles you in your seat. The GLC is nothing like as much fun to drive as the Macan, either.

More positively, six-footers will find plenty of space up front, and rear leg room is just as generous as in the regular GLC. And despite the Coupé’s rakish roofline, tall folk in the back will find a decent amount of head room.

Still, demanding a premium over the regular GLC, the GLC Coupé feels like a bit of a hard sell, unless you’re particularly taken by its appearance.
