These lock onto the wiper arms really easily; it took moments to fit them to our BMW 3 Series, and the plastics feel sturdy enough to withstand a bit of fumbling and faffing if you do struggle to figure out how to attach them. The blades offer a good, even pressure across the windscreen all the way to their tips, they wipe cleanly and are just as effective at motorway speeds as at a standstill. Their modern design brought our elderly car up to date, and their performance, value and convenience are unbeatable.

2 Halfords flat blade Price £21.70 (pair)

These are sold individually, which is handy if only one of your wiper blades is damaged. At this price, though, it’s worth changing both. Halfords offers a fitting service for £5, but these blades are really easy to fit, simply clicking into place. Great value, and they keep your windscreen clear without screeching or smearing. Halfords offers blades to suit most cars.

More traditional in style than the flat blades here, these are a bit of a faff to fit, but we got them on within a few minutes. They apply even pressure all the way along to their tips, delivering a clean wipe. They didn’t whistle or wobble at higher speeds, despite their metal bodies, and they never failed to keep the screen clear. Great quality, but not cheap.
