If you’re looking for the place where sound quality and affordability meet, this collection will show you the way
Here at What Hi-Fi? we like to think that we do everything we can to give you all the information you need about the products that find their way into our testing rooms. As a corollary, we also know that, like a shopper with 50p outside Poundland, that is not always enough. When it comes to building a sound system, many of us are starting from scratch so, from time to time, we like to do the heavy lifting for you by putting together a selection of ready-made systems.
In this issue we have set ourselves the task of assembling a collection of affordable systems that covers all the principal ways in which music can be heard, including CD- and vinyl-based set-ups as well as portable and streaming ones. In each case, our primary aim has been to strike the perfect balance between sound quality and value; these set-ups all sound far better than their price might suggest.
