LG unveiled a full suite of new OLED TVs at CES 2024, but one in particular stood out to us as the one to watch out for. The G4, the successor to last year’s five-star G3, offers a host of upgrades over its predecessor when it comes to picture, sound and gaming specification. While LG suggests the panel tech hasn’t changed much, it has confirmed that picture performance is “measurably better” than the G3, with a brightness figure of 3000 nits being hinted at. Elsewhere, the G4 features a powerful AI-enhanced chipset that allows for various picture-enhancing modes, as well as virtual 11.1.2 channel sound processing. See p60 for our initial impressions.

2Sharp HT-SB700£189
Could this be the most affordable Dolby Atmos soundbar on the market? Sharp’s latest compact soundbar uses a 2.0.2 speaker configuration and optional additions of a set of wireless rear surround speakers called the HT-AWS2001 (£209) and/or a wireless subwoofer, the HT-AWS0101 (£139). This budget soundbar features vertical drivers for overhead Atmos sound while retaining an impressively small footprint of just 52cm in width. All in all, if you want the full Sharp set-up you can expect to pay about £537, which certainly sounds like a bargain to us.

3Audio Technica ATH-TWX7£190
The world of noise-cancelling Bluetooth earbuds is sink or swim, with fierce competition between the likes of Sony, Bose, Apple, Technics and more. Audio-Technica is bravely throwing its hat in the ring with the ATH-TWX7, a pair of noise-cancelling buds that look to undercut rivals for price while retaining ambitions of delivering big sound. That price does result in some features being missed, such as Qualcomm’s aptX codecs, but these buds still have LDAC, Bluetooth Multipoint and IPX4 water resistance, meaning they should survive a splash or a quick rain shower. You can find these buds on sale now for £190, with three finishes available: Ash Black, Rich White or Stone Grey.
