The all-new Kreos A-class flagship arrives

Words Daniel Attwood

LAIKA, famous for its distinctively Italian design, has revealed its 2024 line-up, topped by a new flagship, the Kreos H 5109. The arrival of this A-class marks the completion of two years of research and development to redesign the entire Kreos range. But that’s not all – Laika also has a completely new Kosmo range for the coming season.

ONLY THE BEST

The top-of-the-range Kreos H 5109 is based on the Fiat Ducato Heavy with 180bhp engine and automatic gearbox, coupled to an Al-Ko chassis. It is 7.89m long, has an internal height of at least 2.05m throughout, twin single beds measuring 1.95m long, and a garage with 1.29m headroom.

Design touches from Laika’s partner, GFG Style (a company founded by Giorgetto and Fabrizio Giugiaro, who are famous in the field of automotive design), include a trio of unique LED front indicators on each side that sit proud of the bodywork and twin-lens mirror casings that feature a stripe version of the Italian flag. The panoramic windscreen features wipers specially designed for this model, while the driver’s view is improved by the reduced size of the A-pillars.

Inside, the cab sees the dashboard overlay, driver’s door trim and side cabinet made of soft-touch plastic, embellished with faux-leather with visible stitching. There are pleated blinds throughout with a magnetic catch system, while the windscreen blind is electrically operated and has privacy and sunshade settings as well as providing blackout. The body has aluminium inside and out with XPS insulation in between and is internally carpeted for heat and sound insulation. Heating is courtesy of Alde.

The 1.95m by 1.40m electric drop-down cab bed has Froli springs and, as it lowers, a bedroom feel is created by two upholstered headboards with attached storage, as well as adjustable LED spotlights with USB sockets. The rest of the interior layout mimics that of the low-profile Kreos L 5009, including a round Corian table and a kitchen with gas oven, 153-litre AES fridge, double sink and optional dishwasher and coffee machine holder.

Between the rear bedroom and the kitchen is an en suite with ‘wellness shower’ featuring a double showerhead and, opposite that, a toilet area with Corian worktop and mirrors that conceal its cupboards. The bedroom’s twin beds can be converted into an extra-large double bed and are equipped with an adjustable headboard and spring suspension system.

NEW KOSMO, TOO

At the opposite end of the Laika range is the completely redesigned Kosmo, available in either low-profile or A-class body types.
