BEST MOTORHOME INNOVATION

A YEAR ago, Bürstner very nearly took this award for its Lyseo TD Gallery − the low-profile motorhome with the incredible inflatable overcab bedroom, reached by a real staircase. Originally just a concept vehicle, such was customer interest that the Gallery is now part of Bürstner’s model range, so we’re rather hoping that it’s the same outcome with the company’s latest innovative project.

At this year’s Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, Bürstner revealed the Lyseo TD Lounge, with a push-out mechanism that creates a completely new interior ambience, thanks to the extra 65cm of width available in the ’van. The show vehicle is designed to suit couples who value a spacious lounge and a comfortably sized sleeping area. It will certainly find favour with those with pets, or simply buyers who like a feeling of space (but without driving a big, heavy motorhome). The Lounge is a 3,500kg vehicle that measures a modest 6.99m in overall length and its pure two-berth layout looks almost as if it was developed with UK customers in mind.

“With our Lounge, we have reinterpreted the concept of ‘Travel small, live large’, and elevated it to the next level. Our new living room on four wheels [is] a vision of unparalleled spaciousness,” says Chairman of the Bürstner Management Board, Jens Kromer.

The concept vehicle’s highlight feature is an innovative mechanism for creating more space by pushing out the lounge’s sofa and side wall sideways. But, while the idea may evoke thoughts of bus-sized American RVs, the Lounge takes materials and technology from the expanding overcab of the Lyseo TD Gallery, which is already in production.
