A mid-season launch from this French marque sees the arrival of some of the first campers on the brand-new Ford Transit Custom

THE new Ford Nugget (see November issue) and Bürstner’s Copa (not yet planned for the UK) were the very first campervans to be launched on the all-new Transit Custom at last September’s Caravan Salon Düsseldorf. But two new models from Dreamer, that have just been launched, could be the first campers based on the new van to be seen in the UK as they are expected to debut at February’s Caravan & Camping Show at the NEC.

Dreamer, which is part of the Rapido Group, has also introduced an all-new brand, City By Dreamer, to cater for those looking for a compact campervan that can be used as an everyday vehicle and its first model, the City Camp, is benchmarked against the likes of the Nugget.

Also making its debut at the unveiling near Paris was the latest version of the Cap Land, which is now based on the latest Ford Custom, but once again in long-wheelbase L2 form (5.45m). The City Camp uses the short-wheelbase L1 van (5.05m).

The two new campervans have been created through a collaboration between Dreamer and Westfalia, another Rapido Group marque which manufactures the Ford Nugget and Mercedes-Benz Marco Polo campervans. Westfalia is said to have had significant input into the rising roof that is fitted as standard to both the new models as well as their interiors. Indeed, the new Cap Land is built at the Westfalia factory in Germany, while the City Camp is made in France at the Fleurette site.

Dreamer has specified both campervans with multiple Ford extras – it estimates £3,300 worth of base vehicle options are included – so the standard spec includes various driver assistance aids, heated cab seats, automatic lights and wipers, and 17in alloy wheels. UK buyers also get Ford’s eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard (a manual version will only be offered in Europe). It is expected that there will be plug-in hybrid versions of the two new campervans and possibly even an all-electric derivative in the future.

CITY CAMP

The new City Camp is a true four-berth with twin sliding doors, making it perfect for the school run, loading shopping and carrying passengers when it is being used in its weekday mode. What also sets it apart from many of its competitors is that, while a three-seater rear bench with two Isofix points for child seats is standard (it converts into a 1.93m by 1.25m double bed), this bench can be swapped for two, or even four, optio
