Renault launches an all-new master

1 min read

Renault has launched a completely new version of its Master van (big brother to the Trafic), which it calls the Aerovan. The new van is described as having a fresh new look and cutting-edge technology. It replaces a vehicle that can trace its roots back to 2010, while Master sales total more than three million since the name was introduced in 1980.

Electric and diesel versions of the new Master will be available, while a hydrogen-powered model is planned for the future. Whatever fuel is used, though, the new Renault claims to be the most efficient van in its class, thanks to advanced aerodynamics. Customer deliveries are expected from September.

The all-new Master’s distinctive front end includes Renault’s new logo and extra-large full-LED headlamps in the signature C-shaped array around the grille. Customers will have a choice of seven body colours as standard and over 300 special hues. The rear window is asymmetrical – a typical Master feature – and the rear lights have a distinctive C-shaped pattern like the ones at the front. A great deal of development work has been invested in perceived quality, so each side panel is a single part, even in the longer versions, making them extra stiff so they won’t warp.

Best-in-class aerodynamics have been achieved with a shorter bonnet, a windscreen that’s further forward, new wing mirrors and rear bodywork that’s narrower. As a result, the Master’s CO² emissions are 39g/km lower.

Four Blue dCi powertrains will be available, delivering 105, 130, 150 or 170bhp. The new engines will be substantially more economical and, depending on the version, can be paired to a six-speed manual gearbox or a new nine-speed automatic (with the transmission controls on the steering wheel).
