Stellantis vans, including fiat ducato and peugeot boxer, get a major makeover

Stellantis, which includes Citroën, Fiat, Peugeot and Vauxhall brands (as well as Opel in Europe and RAM in the USA), has announced an unprecedented update across its full van line-up. Under the title of Stellantis Pro One, it aims to be the leader in the global commercial vehicle market. Whilst the changes encompass the whole LCV portfolio, including small vans such as the Citroën Berlingo and medium vans including the Vauxhall Vivaro, the news has the greatest impact for the leisure market with the Fiat Ducato and Peugeot Boxer.

The new Series 10 Ducato will receive a new exterior design (above), new connectivity systems, next-generation ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) and new engines. While there is also a new E-Ducato version with a 270bhp power unit and 110kWh battery, plus a claimed range that’s 30% better (up to 420km), it’s the diesel versions that will still be of greatest interest in the motorhome market.

An extensive range of the latest generation of Multijet engines, compliant with Euro 6E regulations, will be available. With the six-speed manual transmission, three power levels (120, 140, 180bhp) will be offered, while a new eight-speed automatic transmission will come in combination with the 140 and 180bhp units. The Heavy-Duty Ducato with Euro VI Step E homologation comes with both 140 and 180bhp engines, each with manual or automatic transmission.

Thanks to aerodynamic improvements, the new Ducato promises a reduction in fuel consumption and CO2emissions of up to 9% compared to the previous generation. This has been achieved without sacrificing performance, which offers 450Nm of torque.

The new Ducato promises a refreshed interior with a redesigned dashboard and steering wheel, new more functional and spacious door panels that can store all kinds of useful objects, and a new single-zone automatic climate control system. However, the photos show a fascia that looks more tweaked than redesigned.

Much more obvious are the exterior updates on both the electric and internal combustion-engined versions that have been concentrated on the front of the vehicle.

The bold new look involves the entire front of the Ducato, featuring new bumpers, new skid plates and a very different front grille in the vehicle’s body colour.
