Florium’s latest A-class comes in a special rugby-themed edition

Words Rachel Scholes

PART of the Rapido Group, Florium (and sister marque, Fleurette) manufactures a range of low-profile and A-class motorhomes. Most models can be ordered in either Fleurette or, more contemporary, Florium form but this special edition is only available in the Florium line-up, although you can get the same layout as a Fleurette Discover, with a slightly different exterior and interior look.

What’s interesting about all three layouts in the A-class range is that they offer face-to-face lounges, making them primarily aimed at couples. You can carry rear passengers, but all three models offer spacious touring for two.

This 7.49m ’van features an island bed, while sharing the front half of the layout with the 74 LJG that has single beds. There is also a 7.19m model with a smaller lounge area.

And it’s the lounge that makes this model, offering two inward-facing sofas around a fixed table. Both seats are a good size, with storage below. The large, round island leg table folds in half, but it’s not the easiest to get around.

The beauty of A-classes is the bed in the cab, which doesn’t impinge on the lounge. If you want to sleep separately, or have guests, you can still relax up front when the bed is down.

Further back, the kitchen is pretty typical of its type – you only get a two-burner hob, but this leaves a practical work surface in front. There’s a round sink with a large tap that’s more than capable of fitting a large kettle underneath it for your cuppa. The space in the corner would be handy for your electric kettle, but there’s no socket close by.

Above, there’s an extractor with light. To the right, to protect the lounge from vigorous cooking actions, you’ll find a glass panel, which doesn’t impact on the spacious feel. Drawers here are centrally locked, meaning that a simple twist of a handle ensures they won’t slide open when on the road, including that tall unit for five wine bottles – very French.

Opposite is the fridge/freezer, with UK spec sporting the TEC-Tower with an oven above. Other kitchen details include a chalkboard with a quote from celebrated French rugby player, Pierre Villepreux that will state ‘In a rugby team, there are no passengers, only a crew’.

This rugby theme does carry through to other details and gives a real sense of character. Rugby ball-shaped cushions in the lounge and headrests in the b
