Help Hampshire Genealogical Society celebrate its Golden Jubilee in style

Hampshire Genealogical Society is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a two-day event at Victoria Hall (above). The first day has four talks including ‘Fact From Fiction’ by Dave Annal (inset), ‘Tulips, Topiary, Tradescanth and Thyme: 17th-Century Gardens’ by Dr Janet Few and ‘Ethical Dilemmas in Genealogy’ by Dr Penny Walters. The second day has six workshops such as ‘Mapping Alchemy for Genealogists’ by Dr Sophie Kay, ‘Digging Into the Parish Chest’ by Jackie Depelle, ‘Tips and Tricks for Palaeography’ by Dr Caroline Adams and ‘The Making of ITV’s DNA Journey’ by Paul McNeil. There will also be an exhibitors’ hall, a bookstall and the chance to book one-on-one consultations with the experts. £35 for one day or £60 for both days. Advance booking required.

Romany And Traveller Heritage Day

The MERL and the Romany and Traveller Family History Society (rtfhs.org.uk) are hosting a day of music, film, poetry, tours, talks, displays and family fun to celebrate Gypsy Roma and Traveller History Month. You can bring a picnic and sit in the garden by a Romany vardo (wagon) and bender tent listening to traditional music, explore the Robert Dawson Romany Collection, and chat with expert family historians to find out whether you might have Romany ancestors yourself. Free.

The Family History Show York
