The royal report

History has shown us that a British Queen is never without a canine companion, and Camilla is certainly no exception.

On these dark winter mornings, our new Queen likes nothing better than a hearty walk with Jack Russell terriers Bluebell and Beth, now aged 11 and 12.

Animal lover Camilla was announced as the new patron of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London in February 2017, having adopted her beloved rescue dogs from the charity in 2011 and 2012.

They have been much-loved members of their household ever since – very much by royal appointment!

They go everywhere with Camilla, and have been keeping the King and Queen company on their break in the Scottish Highlands at Birkhall.

Beth famously stole the show a few years ago, ‘helping’ Camilla unveil a plaque at new kennels (thanks to a sausage attached to the curtain!).

Both dogs have starred in Country Life as canine ‘Girls in Pearls’ (wearing Camilla’s pearl necklaces) when she was guest editor.

And, of course, they had a starring role on her coronation gown (which she wore again at last autumn’s State Opening of Parliament), where they were embroidered in gold thread at the bottom of the skirt to keep her company.
