1 Layer up the bed

Think of your best night’s sleep and it’ll probably have been in a hotel room. There’s nothing quite like that feeling of sinking into the crisp sheets of a cosy big bed after a long day. With a little attention to your bedding, cushions and blankets, you can recreate that memorable night’s rest at home, day after day. The trick is loading up the bed in layers. Add a flat sheet under your duvet, followed by a comfy throw – choose linen for summer and faux fur or bouclé for colder months. Pile pillows high and finish with a few cushions, then dive right in.

2 Set the mood

Dusky shades are perfect for bringing a tranquil vibe. Pastel blue, gentle sage, putty pink and delicate mauve are all great options for calming us down before sleep. Consider painting a complementary colour on the ceiling to enhance the sense of relaxation, and bring in accent tones through cushions, bedding and accessories.

3 Sort the basics

Sleep is vital, but getting the perfect night’s rest isn’t always easy. Often, an uncomfortable mattress is the culprit, so invest in a comfy bed that suits your sleeping position: a firm mattress for front sleepers, medium-firm if you lay on your back and softer if you sleep on your side*. Try in the shop before you commit.
