Open to happiness

Ever wondered why some people seem happier than others? It might come down to personality, according to a new report*, which found that those who scored higher in five traits had better work, social and life satisfaction. The traits included openness, extraversion, conscientiousness, agreeableness and emotional stability.

But what if you’re a shy person who doesn’t like trying new things? Don’t worry, you can change your personality traits if you want to. In the study, those who were able to increase how open they were to new opportunities and ideas reported the biggest increases in life satisfaction. To encourage yourself to be more curious, creative and imaginative, try starting an artistic hobby, such as painting.

KEEP AN EYE ON IT

Shockingly, 8% of Brits have never had an eye test, while a quarter admit to not having had one in over three years** – well over the two years recommended by experts. ‘There are various eye conditions that are often picked up by optometrists in the early stages of a disease, before the patient notices there is something wrong,’ says ophthalmology registrar Dr Louise Christou. Time to get a test booked in!
