KATE ‘I’m not sure I’m good enough’

Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway broke down during an emotional update on husband Derek Draper’s health, as she admitted feeling like she was ‘failing’.

The 56-year-old has cared for Derek since he first contracted COVID-19 in March 2020. A tearful Kate said, ‘You feel like you’re holding a life in your hands and I’m just not sure I’m good enough for that any more.’

Opening up about a particularly difficult time, Kate – who shares Darcey, 17, and Billy, 14, with Derek – said, ‘I thought, “I’m now properly failing at everything.” I didn’t feel like I was being a great mum because I was so stretched. I didn’t feel like I was being the best advocate for Derek. I didn’t feel like I was doing anything.’

The stress Kate was under even affected her work, with the star admitting, ‘I thought, “My God, I can’t even go on air. I’m a useless employee.” [It was] one of those massive crunch moments.’

Luckily for Kate, she’s had continued support from her employers. ‘I’m so lucky because ITV [are] great bosses, supportive employers,’ she said. ‘Smooth Radio – they’ve been amazing too. And I still get to come to work where there are millions of people who are just in this suffocating bubble of loving the person they’re caring for. But also thinking, how do I make this work?’ You’re doing great, Kate.

She’s been entertaining audiences and making us laugh for over 40 years, but Dawn French has now revealed that her comedy sketches come with a price. The 65-year-old admitted that she’s been in crippling pain for years after trying to recreate her iconic puddle jump scene from The Vicar of Dibley during an appearance on The Paul O’Grady Show back in 2009. Dawn explained, ‘I went 10ft down and plump onto the two crash mats. One leg twisted very awkwardly underneath me and I landed very heavily.’ She continued, ‘I heard the worst twanging noise you could ever imagine. I knew I was in trouble but I completed the sketch. I clearly felt like I’d rather die than admit weakness.’

JUST THE TWO OF US

Most parents dread their children moving out, but not Amanda Holden and her husband Chris Hughes. The BGT judge said, ‘Chris and I are like, “You can leave now” because we still have so much in common, we’re excite
