One of the many reasons Harry and Meghan left the UK was their desire for privacy. Harry also said he took his family to the US to ‘break the cycle of pain’, and that he feared seeing history repeat itself, claiming that Meghan could end up like his mother, Princess Diana, who died in a car crash in 1997.

But while Harry, 39, still has an obsession with security and privacy, Meghan, I understand, now wants to move on.

She wants to be able to raise her two children – Archie, four, and two-year-old Lilibet – openly in California. It’s quite a different ideology that they both have…

Archie attends a local pre-school in Montecito, but the family are rarely seen outside their £11 million mansion.

Harry, haunted by the death of his mother, understandably wants to protect his children at all costs. Paranoid about security, he has even said he cannot bring his family to the UK, as he no longer has police protection – his case against the Home Office for it to be restored is still ongoing.

A royal source said of Harry, ‘Obviously because of the way he grew up, so much in the public eye, he fears for his own children and will do anything to protect them. It’s a very visceral fear that many parents have, but particularly for him.’

The couple’s self-imposed isolation is behind the heavily guarded walls of their nine-bedroom, 16-bathroom home with chicken coop and tennis court.

While Meghan is sympathetic to Harry’s fears, she wants their children to enjoy the outdoorsy beach lifestyle of California.

Hypocrisy claims

The pair’s hatred of the press is well documented, and it’s understandable that they would want to protect their children from intrusion. Yet Meghan has shown that she wants to be more ‘open’ going forward, in the projects she chooses.

Talent agency William Morris Endeavor (WME) has several new projects in the pipeline for Meghan for the end of 2023 and the start of next year – one of which is her highly anticipated return to social media.

Before she married Harry, she enjoyed posting photos on Instagram and fashion, travel and beauty tips on her blog, The Tig. Sharing more of her lifestyle, her thoughts and her passions (likely for a fee!) would inevitably bring her into conflict with the privacy-conscious Harry
