Make your everyday taste better with Tesco Finest

Cooking from scratch or popping a slow-cooked casserole in the oven that simmers away for hours isn’t always an option on weeknights. On such days, you don’t want to spend ages preparing supper, you just want simple dishes elevated with the finest flavours.

With smart shortcuts and a handful of carefully chosen ingredients, you can have a luxurious meal on the table – in just 30 minutes.

Our star chefs Jean-Christophe Novelli and Shelina Permalloo share their secrets for making a great meal fast. It starts with quality ingredients and, of course, having smart cook’s tips up your sleeve for maximum flavour from very little effort.

Together they’ve devised a genius cavolo nero orzotto. It’s a speedy, delicious twist on a traditional risotto using some well-chosen Tesco Finest ingredients.

Their no-stir orzotto uses quick cooking Tesco Finest Orzo instead of rice. ‘It softens in no time but takes on all the flavour of the star ingredients just like rice,’ says Jean-Christophe.

They’ve also chosen a winsome trio of ingredients for a flavour oomph – Tesco Finest Sliced Cavolo Nero, Tesco Finest Parmesan and Tesco Finest Vegetable or Chicken Stock.

Each of these ingredients brings something special to the dish. Even though orzo is a type of pasta, if you gently cook it then it releases lovely starch that makes a dish creamy like a risotto.

And, says Jean-Christophe, if you like, you can blanche your cavolo nero separately and add at the end to keep the colours as rich as possible.

‘To be able to enjoy food, you don’t have to be a professional. You can just take care about which ingredients you use,’ he says. Shelina agrees. ‘During the week you want something easy, filling and nutritious. This orzotto dish has a creamy texture from the orzo without needing any butter or cream.’
