The festive season is Mia Lee’s busiest and most lucrative time of year

It’s that time of year where shops are busy, bars and restaurants are heaving with people socialising and enjoying themselves, and everyone is winding down ready for a little festive break. Not me, though. In my line of work, December is the busiest and most lucrative month of the year.
My job is demanding, I’m on call 24 hours a day, and very rarely am I home before the sun rises. It’s a season when men sneak away from their wives and in-laws to come and see me, and it’s my job to keep them entertained. But I can earn $10,000 (more than £8,000) in one night if I work hard, so I’m not complaining. In fact, I love my job and, at 35 years old, I’ve never been happier.
For 12 years, I worked in finance in America and while the pay was good and afforded me a luxurious lifestyle, it was stressful and, in 2018, I was diagnosed with depression.
I wanted a better work-life balance, so I knew I needed a change of career and to find a job that would pay well, but also allow me more free time.
It got me thinking. My past career had exposed me to the attitudes of men, often married. I noticed how most of them admired an attractive and professional woman and that some seemed smitten with powerful, beautiful colleagues. Of course, most people know that mixing business with pleasure can be messy, but it gave me an idea.
I wondered if I could provide a service as an escort, fulfilling their fantasies and needs, while also making great money for myself. I know, you’re probably judging me right now, or wondering how and why on earth something like that would even cross my mind, but I didn’t want to work in an office or for a big company – I wanted to be my own boss, I wanted a nice life. This would get me that and my old job meant I was well versed in the corporate world, and could keep up with powerful men in suits, talking about work and their interests. Besides, I’ve never been the kind of person to just do what other people think you should do. And while I revealed my plans to some of my closest friends, I didn’t worry about what they or others might think.
Still, for the first few months, I took things slowly, unsure if it was definitely the right decision, or if it would even be a successful career choice.
