This is the month when we all set our intentions to get fitter, so if that’s part of your New Year goals, how about getting paid to do it too? We’ve found apps that pay you to walk*, which sounds like just the sort of motivation we all need!

SWEATCOIN (SWEATCO.IN): This popular app has partnered with the NHS to get people walking. You’ll not only get fitter by moving more; you’ll also be able to earn points when you walk. The points are converted into ‘sweatcoins’, which can be used to shop in its marketplace for yoga classes, high street vouchers, an Audible or Headspace subscription, or even an Apple watch. You’ll have to walk approximately 1,000 steps to earn 0.95 sweatcoins – that’s around half a mile. The free version of the app only counts up to 5,000 steps.

VITALITY REWARDS (VITALITY.CO. UK/REWARDS): If you have a health or life insurance plan with Vitality, you can take advantage of Vitality Rewards, where you can earn points to get free coffee or cinema tickets. To earn the points, you can walk, run, cycle or swim. Each activity will earn you a different amount, but the maximum you can earn is 40 a week; walking 7,000 steps would get you three points, for example. Once you collect the points, you can use them the following week.

CHARITY MILES (CHARITYMILES.ORG): This free app offers a great way to walk, run or bike and help a good cause. For every mile you complete, you will earn money for your chosen charity.

WINWALK (WINWALK.APP): Make your steps count with this free app by collecting points to earn gift vouchers. Every 100 steps earns you one ‘wincoin’ – so walk your daily 10,000 steps and you’ll earn 100. You can then exchange the coins for gift vouchers on the likes of Amazon.
