Zoe’s ‘tough time’
Radio 2’s Zoe Ball has announced that she’ll be taking some time away from her show following some devastating family news. ‘Heartbreakingly, our beautiful mama Julia has been diagnosed with cancer. As many of you know from experience, these are extremely tough times,’ she told fans.
Zoe, 53, continued, ‘Mum is being incredibly brave. My brother Jamie and I are completely in awe of the brilliant doctors, nurses and support teams looking after Mum. Thank you.’
The star went on to thank her friend Gaby Roslin for covering her recently, suggesting that the former Big Breakfast star will continue to host Zoe’s radio show during this difficult period. ‘I’m trying to be at work on Breakfast as often as I can but occasionally need to be home with my mama. Thanks to Gaby for stepping in.’
Fans and celeb pals alike, including Gaby, rushed to support the presenter following the news. Gaby wrote, ‘Love you Zoe and such huge love to your beautiful mummy,’ while Davina McCall said, ‘Sending you and your family the most love x and an extra special cuddle to your mum,’ and Carol Vorderman added, ‘Wishing you all the biggest love and hope and thoughts.’

Hollywood star Kate Winslet has revealed that she secretly struggled with an eating disorder when she was younger. The Oscar-winning actor, 48, shared, ‘I never told anyone about it. Because, guess what – people in the world around you go, “Hey, you look great! You lost weight!”’ Kate added that these days she won’t allow discussions about her weight, saying, ‘It’s one thing I will not let people talk about. If they do, I pull them up straight away.’ Previously she’s admitted her joy at how young actors today don’t have to put up with what she did. She said, ‘When I was younger my agent would get calls saying, “How’s her weight?” So it’s heart-warming that this has started to change.’
