Getting steamy with your other half can bring big benefits, such as increasing your immunity, lowering stress and blood pressure, and improving heart health. It can also help turn back the clock, as sex stimulates the release of oestrogen and testosterone – boosting collagen and preventing hair loss. But what happens when you’ve no time to get in the mood, let alone have sex? Here’s how to feel sexy in less than a minute!
Quick spritz
Fragrances can have a big effect on your emotions, says Lush product perfumer Emma Dick. When you breathe in a scent, it arouses the limbic system (the brain’s emotional control centre). Want to feel sexier? Try upbeat, zesty notes like sharp orange, lemon and grapefruit or black pepper and coffee. Hibiscus is also great at giving your confidence a boost and will heighten the romantic atmosphere.
Make a noise
Breathing deeply, growling or roaring can increase feelings of pleasure by ‘waking up’ vagus nerve endings in the face, lungs and throat, which can, in turn, carry sensation to the groin.
Sizzling soundscape
Instead of listening to love songs, try ASMR sounds instead. ‘ASMR stands for an autonomous sensory meridian response, which is a tingling sensation that originates from the back of the head and down the spine,’ explains life coach Kevin Scheepers. Download an app, such as ASMR – Brain Tingles (free, Apple and Android) or listen on YouTube.
Get moving
‘Exercise is one of the best libido boosters,’ says Stephanie Taylor from Kegel8. ‘It can also improve blood circulation to your intimate area.’ Try 60 seconds of skipping or jumping jacks. ‘Better blood flow can also increase your chances of reaching climax and when you do, it will feel more intense,’ adds Stephanie.
Use your senses
Do certain materials, such as silk or cotton, make you feel sexier? Then try ‘dopamine dressing’. This is when you wear fabrics or colours that make you feel good.
Experiment and find what works for you, whether it’s lace, satin or maybe something red. ‘Plus, swap out your usual sheets for something a bit more luxurious,’ says sex and relationship expert Sammi Cole. ‘The more senses you can delight, the better!’
