Try some highlights

Everyone’s mood gets lighter come the spring and, this year, so should your hair! If you love your current colour but are craving an update, perhaps it’s time to think about highlights. Placed cleverly, a few paler strands can do everything from brighten your skin, lift your features and even make your teeth look whiter! So forget about Botox, book your next colour appointment now to roll back the years.

BABYLIGHTS

This technique takes lighter colour through the front sections of your hair. The sections are very fine and mimic the highlights you got around your hairline as a child. Highlights framing your face are all you need to brighten and lift your skin.

Best for: Shorter hair lengths and first-time highlighters. The colour won’t alter dramatically, just lift your overall look.

BALAYAGE

This involves colouring sections on the surface of your hair, but maintains the original colour near the roots. Your colourist paints highlights freehand, so the effect is natural.

Best for: Darker hair shades and those who don’t want to commit to a big change.

FLUID HAIR PAINTING

Like balayage, this also involves the colourist painting your hair freehand, but with this technique, your head rests against a table and the hair fans out on it behind you, so your stylist can make the coloured sections blur into each other. The effect involves more colour, but still achieves natural-looking results.

Best for: Longer hair lengths and those who want to make more of a change.
