Spice girl: Nadiya shows us how to transform our cooking

The TV cook on her spicy new series…

Nadiya Hussain is on a mission to tingle our taste buds in six-part series Nadiya’s Simple Spices, as she transforms everyday dishes with eight of her favourite spices: cinnamon, turmeric, cumin, bay, fennel, chilli, cardamom and curry.

‘For as long as I can remember spice has been a part of my life,’ says Nadiya. ‘My mum, my nanny, and my great nanny before her have all made incredible meals with just a few humble spices. These are the smells of home and now I want to teach you to create a whole host of mouth-watering meals for every occasion, using just eight simple spices.’

As well as sharing tips on how to save time and money, she’ll find out about other spices that cooks use to pep up their cooking, beginning with food writer Yasmin Khan, who shares the joys of saffron in Iranian cuisine.

The first episode is all about feel-good food and on the menu is dal infused with bay leaves, turmeric and cumin, a paneer and chilli loaf, a seafood broth, where turmeric is the star of the show, and a baked cheesecake featuring cinnamon, pistachio nuts and rose petals!

‘When people think of spices, they think hard work, but spices can be simple,’ says Nadiya. ‘It’s not difficult or complicated. These are the spices I use every day, elevating ordinary ingredients into something sensational. Are you ready to cook up a storm?’
