YES‘It brings out my inner Grinch’

Susan Bordley, 51, lives in the Wirral

It’s always the same every year, way before the summer has drawn to a close, the supermarkets and shops are suddenly infested with cheap orange and black disposable plastic rubbish, and people I’d always considered to be perfectly sane start dragging out the pumpkins and silly outfits.

Far from being good for the environment, or our purses during a cost of living crisis, I am always stunned by how people get sucked into buying such a lot of useless tat in the name of Halloween.

Each year I have to keep all the lights off at the front of my house and sit in silence while the doorbell goes again and again.

Even though I leave a tub of sweets on the doorstep, trick-or-treaters still knock and I hate it.

Thankfully my two sons are teenagers now and aren’t bothered about Halloween, but when they were younger and asked to go trick-or-treating I told them firmly, no. As far as I’m concerned it’s nothing more than begging. I’m afraid my inner Grinch really does come out at this time of year and I wish people would just tone it down.

I’d never begrudge children a bit of fun, but Halloween has just become too over the top. Now, that’s not just spooky, it’s terrifying!
