WHO’S READY FOR A VACAY?

But not just any holiday – one for the rich and famous...

It’s that time of year again, isn’t it? Short days, short tempers, bulging waistlines and shrinking bank accounts. Plus, everyone but you is on some kind of health kick they insist on telling you about at every opportunity.

Enough to make anyone eye the half-priced Stilton and Quality Street still on supermarket shelves with bloody-minded intent. There’s only one thing that’s stopping me doing so, though. Bikinis. Because the telly and newspapers are full of wonderful ways to escape the humdrum with summer holiday adverts.

Which means peeling off the three thousand layers I’ve seemingly been wearing since last October and revealing – gasp -
actual flesh. Shudder. And wobble.

Still, as the husband keeps leaving various Sunday supplement cruise reviews lying around (subtle he ain’t) it’s a subject that must be addressed. And probably undressed at some point. This is where the debate gets heated (unlike the weather), though. Because his eyes are always bigger than his wallet. While I’m thinking Torquay, he’s thinking Thailand.

Still, it’s always best to humour the man in your life, isn’t it? So, dear readers, I went in so you don’t have to. And I came across a thread on a Reddit forum that revealed where the super-rich REALLY go on holiday. And it ain’t Benidorm!

One of the top-rated places listed was, at first glance, quite sensible though. Turkey. Now we’ve been to Turkey, and it was very reasonable, thank you.

Our self-catering hotel above a loud bar was just a teeny, weeny bit different to the holiday raved about on this site, though.

It’s called The Bodrum Edition and boasts a ‘director of beach’. I mean, what? Any case when there was a sudden freak storm this person evidently sprinted across the beach with an umbrella, ushered the guests inside and offered them a free lavish lunch for the inconvenience of getting wet. Even though they’d been swimming in the sea and were probably wet in any case. Now that’s service!

Second on this list of places you and I can only dream of was the Ritz Paris, former home of fashion icon Coco Chanel, who lived there for 34 years. Which at the current average nightly rate of £1,750 would have come to a pretty penny indeed. No wonder her suits were so expensive!
