They’ve been married for 37 years, but it seems Judy Finnigan and Richard Madeley may still not have mastered the art of a happy and peaceful union. Judy has previously opened up about how they often squabble behind closed doors. And now the star has admitted their marriage still takes work.

‘We’ve been married 37 years and marriage is hard, there is no doubt about it,’ she said. So what’s going on at the couple’s north London mansion?

TENSION AT HOME

Judy has admitted that things can get so bad, they often end up not talking. ‘We might sometimes be absolutely furious with each other and not speaking.’

However, she added, ‘But in the end that kind of thing doesn’t matter, especially as you get older.’ But this isn’t the first time Judy has confessed to arguing with Richard. She’s previously detailed their annual ‘heating wars’. When reacting to news that King Charles has ordered staff to turn down thermostats in a bid to make Buckingham Palace greener, Judy said, ‘My heart sank a little when I heard King Charles has issued orders to palace flunkeys to keep the central heating pegged at a lukewarm 19C in winter (that’s 66F in old money) and an even chillier 16C (barely 60F) in unused rooms.

‘While I applaud his thriftiness and noble example setting to his shivering subjects, I know it will just add ammo to my husband’s locker in our annual “heating wars.”’ She added, ‘I’m with the Some Like It Hot lot. Richard is in the School for Cool and forever turning the thermostat down.’

And there’s another household battle that often leaves Richard in trouble. ‘It’s the same with lights,’ Judy said. ‘I like some on at night downstairs. But once I’m in bed he goes around turning them off.’ Meanwhile, Richard has said that Judy gets ‘fed up’ when she only has Richard to talk to in the house.
