Following her ‘planned abdominal surgery’ at The London Clinic in January, the Princess of Wales is taking a break from royal duties and isn’t expected to return to work until after Easter.

As she continues her recovery at home, we take a look at those closest to Kate, who are undoubtedly rallying around to support the princess and her family during this challenging time.

SOPHIE SNUGGS

A close friend of the Middletons, Sophie, 40, is from the elite group of English farming families known as the ‘Turnip Toffs’ and has been part of the royal circle for years. In fact, she used to date Prince William’s close pal, Thomas van Straubenzee – who was best man at his wedding and is Princess Charlotte’s godfather. But, in 2018 she wed Robert Snuggs and had two very special guests – Prince George and Princess Charlotte – as part of her wedding party. Almost always by Kate’s side, you’ll see her at key royal events. Not to mention she lives a stone’s throw away from William and Kate’s Norfolk retreat, Anmer Hall.

EMILIA JARDINE-PATERSON

Often dubbed Kate’s best friend, Emilia has known the princess since they were 13, having met during their time at Marlborough College. As well as being an interior designer, Emilia, 41, is also one of Prince George’s godparents and has been credited for introducing Kate and William. The niece of Viscount Exmouth, she was part of the ‘Glossy Posse’ of well-bred teenagers in Gloucestershire, who socialised with William at his father’s Highgrove home. And in 2007, following Kate’s brief split from Wills, it was Emilia who whisked Kate off to Ibiza.
