Founder of Uoma Beauty and the non-profit Pull Up For Change campaign Sharon Chuter takes us through her hardworking beauty must-haves
A typical day Between the running of multiple businesses – including inclusive Black-owned beauty brand Uoma Beauty and non-profit project Pull Up For Change – and activist work, I don’t have much ‘me’ time.
I wake up very early (between 4am and 5am) in Los Angeles to ensure I’m awake to communicate with the global markets I work with. My dog Leo is my true passion and he’s always by my side. I spend at least 10 minutes with myself in the mirror each morning, doing my skincare and make-up; it sets the tone for the day.
For Uoma Beauty, I work across everything, including boxing products if I need to. I always push to bring out new products, as well as directing shoots, managing the supply chain, financing and being the face of the brand. I don’t cook and rarely see friends – that’s the nature of life working across start-ups. I relax on Saturdays by sleeping in, catching up on Netflix and grooming Leo. I also like reading about history, as I’m on a journey to discover my own. I go to sleep around 11pm.
Skincare philosophy
Keep it simple, especially if you have oily skin. I think most products used to get rid of oil make things worse by drying out the skin. Trust vitamin C to give you a glow – and sunscreen is your friend.
Skincare non-negotiable
I have a few: retinol to smooth the skin and treat acne; vitamin C for radiance; hyaluronic acid for intense hydration and sunscreen for protection against UV rays.
Main skincare concern
Hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone. I look to vitamin C as it inhibits the production of melanin (the cause of skin discoloration).

01 LA PRAIRIE FOAM CLEANSER, £78
I love a good foam wash; I don’t like the feeling of gel wash, and cream cleansers leave my skin feeling greasy. La Prairie’s is gentle but thorough.
02 DR SEBAGH VITAMIN C POWDER CREAM, £85 (FOR FIVE)
This powdered vitamin C can be added to your serum or moisturiser, or used directly on your skin. It turns into a light cream after application and helps to brighten and protect the skin against free radical damage.
03 SUPERGOOP! UNSEEN SUNSCREEN SPF30, £32
This is my everyday sunscreen as it doesn’t leave a grey cast on deeper skin tones. It also sits well under make-up and helps to hydrate the skin.
Night
04 PETER THOMAS ROTH WATER DRENCH CLOUD CREAM, £45
This moisturiser is packed with hyaluronic acid, which attracts hydration into the skin. It really feels as
