As the daughter of a merchant navy seaman, I was brought up on tales of the ocean, faraway places with exotic names and grainy black-and-white photos of Australian docks and Tahitian beaches. No wonder I’ve had the travel bug since I was young. If you love travelling as much as I do, I urge you to make 2019 the year you live the dream and visit at least one of the places on your must-see list. Ready to explore the world? This month we report on the delights of an Arabian cruise – from Petra in Jordan to the Pyramids in Egypt and the magic of Abu Dhabi. Want to go further afield? Chile’s buzzing coastal city Valparaiso is hot right now, and it’s the perfect place to try out the country’s unique fusion cuisine. Closer to home, we’re on the final countdown to our annual Wave Awards. We asked you to vote for your favourite destinations and cruise companies, and the shortlist is revealed in this issue.
