Chris NICHOLL (1946-2024)

Northern Ireland international who was a centre-back for Southampton, Aston Villa, Luton Town, Grimsby Town and Halifax Town, notably winning two League Cups with Villa in the 1970s. Later managed Southampton and Walsall and served as assistant coach for Northern Ireland.

Rui RODRIGUES (1943-2024)

Born in Mozambique, the centre-back went to Portugal and played 12 seasons at Academica Coimbra either side of spells at Benfica and Vitoria Guimaraes. Won 12 caps for Portugal.

Norin BETANI (1999-2024)

Zambia Women’s international who died just days before her team played Ghana in an Olympic Games qualifier. The Indeni Roses striker had been named in the national squad for the two-legged tie and was in the training camp, but was rushed to hospital and passed away.

Miguel ANGEL (1947-2024)

Real Madrid’s keeper during the 1970s and 1980s, winning six La Liga titles and seven cups, as well as the 1984-85 UEFA Cup and 1975-76 Zamora Trophy as Spain’s best goalkeeper.

Giacomo LOSI (1935-2024)

A one-club player who spent his entire 14-year career with Roma, right-back Losi held the club’s appearance record until being overtaken by Francesco Totti. Played for Italy at the 1962 World Cup.

Ulrik LE FEVRE (1946-2024)

A Denmark international and league title winner in the 1970s with Borussia Monchengladbach, Club Brugge and in his home country with Vejle BK.

Paul BRADSHAW (1956-2024)

Former goalkeeper and England U21 international who played 243 games for Wolves between 1977 and 1983. Also played for Blackburn, Vancouver Whitecaps, West Brom, Bristol Rovers, Newport County and Peterborough.

Eddie MITCHELL (1954-2024)

Former Bournemouth chairman who helped kick-start the club’s rise from League Two to the Premier League.

Stan BOWLES (1948-2024)

A true Queens Park Rangers icon, with one of the stands at Loftus Road named after him. Born in Manchester, Bowles’ career began in northwest England at Manchester City, Bury, Crewe Alexandra and Carlisle United, before he arrived in West London in 1972. With 96 goals in 315 appearances, Bowles is QPR’s sixth-highest goalscorer of all time, but he is more fondly remembered for the entertaining manner in which he played.
