Big prize for novel novels

The Fitzcarraldo Editions Novel Prize 2022 is inviting entries to win $10,000 and publication.

The biennial international Fitzcarraldo Edition Novel Prize is given for innovative, imaginative unpublished literary fiction that explores the possibilities of the novel form. The winner will receive $10,000 and simultaneous publication in the UK and Ireland by Fitzcarraldo Editions, in Australia and New Zealand by Giramondo and in North America by New Directions.

The award is open to published and unpublished novelists worldwide. All submissions must be original and unpublished. Include a cover letter and a brief outline with the manuscript.

Each writer may enter one manuscript.

The closing date is 1 June.

The best society

Win a £1,000 prize for the best unpublished short story of the year in the VS Pritchett Short Story Prize 2022.

The prize was founded by the Royal Society of Literature to commemorate the centenary of the birth, in 1900, of the writer and literary critic. The annual competition awards a £1,000 prize and the winner’s story is published in Prospect magazine and the RSL Review. This year’s judges are Jenn Ashworth, Cynan Jones and Emma Paterson.

The competition is open to writers resident in the UK, Republic of Ireland and the Commonwealth. Stories should be original, unpublished and between 2,000 and 4,000 words.

The entry fee is £7.50 per story.

The closing date is 1 July. There are fifty free entries available for low-income writers, who should apply for free entry before 17 June.

AESTHETICALLY PLEASING

Enter poetry and short fiction in the £5,000 international Aesthetica Creative Writing Award 2022.

Now in its 15th year, the annual international Aesthetica Creative Writing Award invites innovative new poetry and short fiction. Aesthetica is particularly interested in works that reflect on our ever-changing world.

The winner in each category will receive £2,500 and publication in the Aesthetica Creative Writing Annual. The poetry winner will receive full membership of the Poetry Society, a twelve-month subscription to Litopia, a one-day course courtesy of the Poetry School and a five-day Arvon course. The short fiction winner will receive a consultation with Redhammer Management, a twelvemonth subscrption to Litopia, and a five-day Arvon course.
