FLASH FICTION COMPETITIONS

International Flash Fiction Competition

Spain’s César Egido Serrano Foundation has launched its seventh International Flash Fiction Competition, writes Gary Dalkin. The philosophy of the Foundation is that the word is the tool of coexistence between different cultures, religions and ideologies, and the theme of the current competition is ‘Dream, Write and Share’.

Entry is free and anyone, anywhere in the world over the age of 14 can enter, submitting up to three stories, each no more than 100 words in length. Submissions can be in Spanish, English, Arabic or Hebrew, and there is an overall prize of $20,000, plus three runners up awards of $2,000 for the best stories in the three languages other than that of the winning entry. All entries must be original and unpublished in any form. The deadline is midnight on 30 September, Spanish peninsular time.

The Oxford Flash Fiction Prize 2023

Win a £1,000 first prize in the contest for 1,000-word fiction.

The next instalment of the Oxford Flash Fiction Prize is running in partnership with the Gifts and Books exhibition at the Bodlein Library, University of Oxford. The Prize is an international competition for original, unpublished short stories no longer than 1,000 words.

The winner will receive £1,000. There are second and third prizes of £200 and £100 and winning entries will be published in a digital anthology.

The entry fee is £6 for one entry, £10 for two and £14 for three.

The closing date is 31 August.

The Anthology Travel Writing Award 2023

Win a €500 prize for non-fiction travel articles.

Anthology magazine is inviting entries of original, unpublished non-fiction travel articles, up to 1,000 words.

The winner will receive €500 and their travel story will be published in Anthology.
