How do I spend my days?

I’m currently in the gap between my daughter finishing nursery and starting school, so life is a structureless chaos. My wife Danielle Ward is also a writer, mostly of TV shows (Brassic, In the Long Run, Danger Mouse), so we split our days 50/50 between being cloistered in our respective offices writing jokes or taking our four-year-old to fun and exciting places like Flamingo Land or Sainsbury’s.

Friday night - cocktails or chill?

It depends how shattered we are. We met as the bassist and drummer in a band and still love live music, so if we have the energy we’ll go to see what’s on at The Crescent or The Phoenix Inn. Otherwise, it’s crashing on the sofa with negronis and a film.

Saturday morning -Parkrun or papers?

I recently turned 40, so have inevitably started running in an attempt to stop ageing entirely. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Feeding time?

My wife and I love to go out in York. Melton’s, Los Moros and Dough Eyed are particular favourites. The variety and quality of places to eat is fantastic. A real credit to the city.

Retail therapy?

I’m not much of a shopper. Growing up, my pocket-money would often go unspent, abandoned at the back of a drawer or scattered across the bedside table. I remember once as a teenager, when I was finally strong-armed into tidying my room, I found £150 in accumulated small change. I’ve not turned into much of a spender, with the one exception of books.
